East Lancashire Chamber Low Carbon – Green Rose Completion

Attendees at East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce Green Rose programme holding their certificates

Since February Elaine has been attending a Low Carbon workshop at the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce in Clayton-le-Moors. The course provides training on ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. The goal is to work towards obtaining ISO14001 certification in the future.

As a small holiday business, we are always looking at ways we can help to reduce our carbon footprint and to help the planet now and for future generations.

We have already planted over 1400 trees, introduced recycling bags in the chalets, installed a twin socket EVCP, reduced the number of pillows, with a spares available in the wardrobe.  The majority of our guests only use one pillow, so this helps to reduce the amount of linen to be laundered. All bulbs are LED, the heated towel rails are on a timer and are now switched off in summer.  However, guests can easily switch them back on if needed.

We also encourage our guests to be energy efficient and to switch off items that are not in use and to ensure that the heating is not on when opening windows and doors for any length of time.  We will continue to look at ways we can improve and reduce our carbon footprint and welcome any suggestions from guests.

The photo is of all the attendees and their certificates.  You will find me under the number 6.
